After the disappointment of Storm Ciara wiping out racing, we were not going to let Dennis the Menace stop us from getting out on the water.
Alongside the Dinghy Instructor Pre-Assessment Course a small fleet went racing in the cold and windy weather.
Putting actions to his words Tom took off from the line leading from start to finish for the first race. Despite the conditions the Silver Fleet, made up of Dan and Stella, kept up with the pace of the main fleet, and even pushed them for positions on the course.
Following a brief break, during which time the wind shifted direction and built to throw more challenges at the sailors, the second race got underway.
Halfway up the first leg a freak gust knocked over Dan and Rob. Luckily they both managed a dry capsize. Dan was not so lucky later on when he was thrown in the cold water when his boat capsized and got stuck in the mud, resulting in his retirement from the race.
With Dan retired, Stella had the silver fleet to herself, and sailed happily to the finish in first place.
The race for the gold fleet was heating up but with the final leg around the corner a large gust at 5 capsized Andrew & Lauren in the Taser and broke George’s boom (actually it was his mother’s boom – pocket money will be deducted!)
The carnage allowed Abi to keep going and take second place after Tom.
With the final race of the series completed Tom takes first place in the gold fleet followed by Rob, and Chris in 2nd and 3rd.
In the Silver Fleet Cameron takes first place, followed by Dan B, and Stella takes third.
Next Sunday is the Two-Handed Regatta and then we start the next series on the 1st March.
